The Baseline Model is a streamlined energy simulation designed for ease of use and speed. Often referred to as a Reduced Order or Grey Box model, the Baseline Model provides high accuracy when determining a projects Energy Use Intensity. The simulation uses the same fundamental Heat Balance equations defined in the ASHRAE Fundamentals Handbook and used by all other major energy simulation engines.
The core engine for the Baseline Model is based on the ISO 13790 Standard. This standard produced by the Intentional Standard Organization provides a formal method for calculating the heat gains and losses of a building, the HVAC energy consumption and much more. ISO 13790 is used globally by tools and software, including as the basis for the United Kingdom's NCM iSBEM compliance assessment tools.
