Our Process for Comparison:
The Energy Plus model results for different versions of ASHRAE codes were obtained by running the PNNL models of different building types. The same inputs were used to generate the cove.tool results which were calibrated later to match the Energy Plus Results. The results that follow indicate that cove.tool is on average within 5% of all Energy Plus simulations.

BUILDING TYPES:

Small Office

  1. All cove.tool models are within 8.5% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.
  2. The Fan loads for 2010 and 2013 ASHRAE models are approx. 50% less and 50% more for respective cove.tool models.

Medium Office

  1. All cove.tool models are within 5% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.

Large Office

  1. All cove.tool models are within 5% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.
  2. The Equipment loads for ASHRAE 2007 and 2010 are 8% more than respective cov.tool models and ASHRAE 2013 is 10% more than 2013 cove.tool model.

Hotel

  1. All cove.tool models are within 5% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.

Education

  1. All cove.tool models are within 10% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.
  2. the Fan loads for ASHRAE models are approx. 50% more than cove.tool models.

Hospital

  1. All cove.tool models are within 5% when compared to respective Energy Plus models.
